Save the Children Cash Assistance 2025 for New Students:
Application is January 9 to January 24, 2025
〜Ensuring Children’s Right to Learn, we will provide a portion of the costs associated with new enrollments. * Eligibility conditions apply.〜
Save the Children will implement the “Save the Children Cash Assistance 2025 for New Students” to help children enjoy their school life without financial worries.
This program provides a portion of the cost associated with graduation and enrollment for new first-year junior high school students and first-year high school students.

【Number of Recipients】
New 1st Year Junior High school students / New 1st Year High school students
total 1,000 recipients
【Information on Assistance】 *no refund required
30,000yen for New 1st Year Junior High school students / 50,000yen for New 1st Year High school students
【Application Period】
12:00p.m.(noon) on Thursday, January 9,2025 to 12:00p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2025
*Applications should be submitted online. Applications will be accepted by mail only under unavoidable circumstances. Applications by mail must arrive in Save the Children office no later than January 24 (Friday). Please note that the postmark is not valid.
*Applications will be accepted through the online form starting on Thursday, January 9th noon.
*Please note that applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted, no matter what the reasons are.
*If the parent or guardian has difficulty applying, it is possible for support organizations concerned to apply on their behalf.
【Eligible person】
The child who meets all the following eligibility criteria 1 to 3.
1. The Child concerned must reside in Japan at the time of application and scheduled to enter a junior high school or high school, etc., within Japan in April 2025.
2. Parent’s / Guardian’s annual income meets the standard amount set by Save the Children, and it is difficult to prepare for graduation and enrollment expenses.
3. The living situation must meet one of the conditions A-H.
A. The child concerned or his/her parent has a disability.
B. The child or guardian suffers from a specified disease and holds a Pediatric Chronic Specified Disease Medical Expense Recipient Certificate or a Specified Medical Expense Recipient Certificate.
C. There are circumstances in the family environment, such as the child himself or herself being raised by a sibling.
D. The child has/had escaped from domestic violence.
E. The guardian does not receive a disability pension or survivor’s pension, and the household income in 2022 and 2023 is less than 1/2 of the standard amount set by Save the Children (see the table above).
F. The child concerned does not speak Japanese as a mother tongue and is in receipt of support due to difficulties communicating Japanese in everyday life.
G. Public assistance is not available for reasons such as unstable status of residence or statelessness of the child concerned and/or their parent(s)/guardian(s).
H. The child concerned or his/her parent is in a situation that requires substantial consideration in his/her daily life for reasons other than A-G.
*Families receiving Seikatsu Hogo (Public Assistance) are not eligible for this cash assistance.
* Applying under H may not be eligible for selection depending on the information provided in the application.

【Documents to Submit】
1. Certificate of Residence [Juminhyo] for all members of the household (Mandatory)
*Please make sure the certificate states Relationship. “My number” is not necessary. Obtained on or after January 1, 2025.
2. Certificate of civic and prefectural income taxation for FY2024 (Mandatory)
* Only a certificate that shows a breakdown of your annual earnings, income amount, income deductions, and deductions for dependents (proof of all items), etc., will be accepted.
3. Certificate of Child-Rearing Allowance or a single-parent family medical certificate (Mandatory if you have.)
* A certificate is required in order to confirm the member of the household.
*Please submit the validated copy.
4. The latest disability or survivor's pension revision notice (Mandatory if parent(s) receive a disability pension or bereaved family pension.)
5. A notice of injury and sickness allowance payment or a notice of decision to pay leave compensation for workers' compensation (Mandatory if you have one of them or both.)
*If parent(s) received injury and sickness allowance payment or compensation for workers' compensation in 2023, please submit.
6. A certificate of eligibility for employment insurance (Mandatory if you received it.)
*If parent(s) received injury employment insurance in 2023, please submit.

【Online Application Process】

【Precautions for application】
◆ Details Pertaining to Assistance
The Save the Children Cash Assistance 2025 for New Students a program undertaken by Save the Children for addressing poverty issues among children within Japan. It involves support to cover part of the expenses incurred when children enter or graduate from school to ensure that all children are able to enter school with peace of mind and without any anxieties over financial difficulties. What we learn through this project will inform our awareness raising, policy advocacy, and public relations activities, with the aim of realizing measures to improve the food situation and lives of all children.
◆ Application Details and Documents
If any of the information provided in your application is found to be false, you are asked to return assistance paid. Please make sure you review the guidelines carefully and double-check the details of your application and documents before submitting them.
◆ Selection Process
Applications will be screened based on the documents and information submitted. Even if you are eligible, if the number of applications exceeds the capacity, the beneficiary will be determined based on the examination. And if the number of applicants is less than the maximum number of assistance available, the program may not be able to grant the assistance depending on the result of the selection process. Please note that we are unable to respond to any questions regarding details of the selection process.
◆ Combination with Other Scholarships
This assistance can be used in combination with scholarships other than Save the Children or public programs (high school scholarships, financial aid, etc.).
◆ Requests for Questionnaires and Interviews
Those who have been selected for benefits may be asked to participate in Save the Children questionnaires and interviews. In that case, we will confirm again whether or not we can cooperate.
◆ Privacy Policy
Personal information obtained at the time of application will be used for communication and procedures necessary for the implementation of this assistance, for providing information to applicants on other activities and available services provided by Save the Children, and for conducting questionnaires and interview surveys, and Save the Children will take full responsibility for managing and storing this information (the storage period is 5 years after the completion of the assistance). Personal information will not be supplied to third parties without the express permission of the applicants.
In addition, translation, compilation, and analysis of the application information may be outsourced to professionals and companies with whom Save the Children enters into a subcontracting agreement, in such cases, your personal information will be protected under Save the Children’s privacy protection principles. Application information and its aggregate results may be used for activities of Save the Children such as program reports, awareness raising activities, policy advocacy, and public relations activities, however, will never be disclosed in a manner that identifies individuals.
